1. When/where is the symposium?
The symposium is taking place at the Oakland Marriott Hotel and Convention Center on September 24 and 25, 2010.
2. How can I register for the Symposium?
Please register online at www.cabreastcancer.org/symposium/. If you have a current grant with CBCRP or would like to submit a poster, then register as a CBCRP Grantee. Please register before September 15.
2.a. What are the poster dimensions?
The posters dimensions are 8' wide x 4' high.
3. How do I register for a travel scholarship?
We opened applications for travel scholarships on June 1. At that time, you may go to the symposium registration site and click on the "If you need help with travel (click here) first" link. There are a limited number of openings available this year. Travel scholarship applications will close July 30. See eligibility requirements for more.
4. What are the eligibility requirements for a travel scholarship?
Go to the symposium registration site and click on the "If you need help with travel (click here) first" link. Scholarships will be prioritized to attendees who have not previously received a scholarship, and will be awarded to eligible applicants on a first come, first served basis. There will be a waiting list for cancelations or drop-outs. Rooms will be shared.
5. Do I have to register to attend?
We are asking everyone who wants to attend a meeting to register online so that we can plan for food and have enough space for everyone. Please register before September 15.
6. I registered, but never received confirmation. What should I do?
Please email symposium@cabreastcancer.org, or call our office (510-987-9884) and we'll look up your name in our list of registrants.
7. Does it cost anything to attend?
No, the meetings are free, but please register online at least one week before the meeting.
8. How can I update my registration information?
Return to our website (www.cabreastcancer.org/symposium/) and click on the "Registration" link. Look for "UPDATE: 2010 Registrants Additions and Edits." Use the email that you registered with to log in and make your changes.
9. What is the purpose of the meetings?
These meetings will give you the opportunity to hear a review of scientific highlights in environmental causes of breast cancer and disparities; discuss promising research topics and/or approaches; and learn about funding opportunities from the Special Research Initiatives. Discussions will cover:
- the basic biology of breast cancer
- new diagnostic tools and personalized therapies
- exploring ways to improve delivery of services new tools for researching disparities and their impact on breast cancer risk
- the influence of breast cancer research on statewide and national chemicals policy
- the role of advocacy and community research in moving the breast cancer field forward
- ways for you to make your mark in the fight against breast cancer
10. Who should attend?
- Advocates (breast cancer, environmental health and justice, disparities focused)
- Scientists/Researchers (basic, environmental, and social scientists)
- Health Care Providers
- Government and public health officials, and
- Interested members of the public
