Predicting Breast Cancer Years Before It Develops
Dr. Tlsty is trying to catch breast cancer before it develops. Specifically, Dr. Tlsty directs her laboratory to use genetic, molecular, biochemical, and cytogenetic techniques to study the cell biology of tumor cell formation and progression in human tissue. She and her team recently identified a variant subpopulation of human mammary epithelial cells that express properties of pre-malignant lesions before they become cancerous. Dr. Tlsty and her team have found molecular markers in these cells that identify early breast cancer lesions and can be critical targets for therapeutic intervention. Read more >Ask an Expert
