Assemblywoman Barbara Friedman
Pioneer in Breast Cancer Research Legislation
Assemblywoman Friedman, who was elected to the Assembly in 1991, successfully sponsored major breast cancer legislation that created statewide research and early detection programs. Since her election, and in previous community and public service, Assemblywoman Friedman has focused on issues affecting health, women and children. The Breast Cancer Research Program is the largest state program in the nation dedicated to research into breast cancer. With this landmark legislation, Assemblywoman Friedman has created a program that enables Californians to contribute, through a small portion of the tobacco tax, to innovative research into the causes and prevention of breast cancer.
