Research Highlights
It is possible that a woman’s physiological condition at the time of her breast cancer surgery will affect whether the procedure is ultimately successful. Hillary Klonoff-Cohen of the University of California, San Diego, is evaluating which aspects of menstrual cycle status, stress hormones, and immunological factors at the time of surgery correlate with positive long-term outcomes. Dr. Pierre Desprez is seeking to identify and understand biomarkers of breast cancer progression and invasion. He has shown that high levels of Id-1 protein in tumors and low levels of Id-2 are characteristic of more aggressive breast tumors and poorer prognosis. Read More >
